the artist Kip Ackerman

Greetings to all! My name is Kip Ackerman, also, known as The Artist Kip. I was born in 1960 in Dover New Jersey. My folk's names were Cliff and Barbara Ackerman. Mom Was a musician & Dad was an artist in sign making and illustration. My Grandfather Ellwood or "Pop" and my Uncle John were artists in sign writing and art direction.

I believe I'm carrying on a legacy. When I was growing up, I remember going to Pops house and seeing Vargas girl pin ups and all types of sketches, designs and other works of art, that was truly inspiring. {By the way, Vargas was an artist, famous for his nude illustrations.} Dad had a lot of art books in our home and I began copying from how to cartoon books along with how to draw, as well as composition, layout and design books. I guess that is where my passion for drawing and such began.
I studied art and a little architectural drawing in high school. In my junior year I studied commercial art and design at Morris County Vo- Tech. After graduating high school I traveled a bit, just me and my portfolio. I then attended Morris County College. After which I moved on to Utah State University where I completed my art core with emphasis in drawing in 1988. I helped pay for college by starting my own little art business called All Art Studio, where I did signs, designs and murals. It seems that ,even to this day ,that any time the finer parts of my art work are in a slow period, I’ll always get a sign job. Thanks Dad !

I have always endeavored to remain versatile in my work and open to new experiences in mediums, in addition to the more classical arts. In the past six years I have expanded into murals and decorative art for the home, garden or office. (In fact I just finished a mural in a corporate board room of the C.E.O’s yacht.) Currently I am on Anna Maria Island in Florida where I have spent 10 years working and honing my craft. I'm happy to share my work with you via this web site and hope you will join me in my creation of artworks.

Tribute to my mom: I must tell you about my wonderful Mother and her love and support throughout my life. Mom would always encourage me to draw especially if I were to whine “ Mom, Im bored," a real no no in our home. She would reply, “Go draw something” or “ Go run around the block," or “ There's plenty of work to do around here !.” I chose to draw. I was a very fidgety kid and the only way to keep me occupied in church was to give me a pad and pencil and let me draw. There’s another memory I think the greatest one of all is that of waking up on week ends and holidays to classical music and hymns being played by Mom on her baby grand. To this day I get a special feeling when Im drawing, painting or sculpting with classical music playing in the background. Thanks Mom!.
